Savage Mountain Farm is a highly diversified, Certified Naturally Grown farm located on the western side of Big Savage Mountain in Somerset County, PA, operated by Ben Yoder. Spanning 150 acres, the farm raises a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, mushrooms (including shiitake, oyster, and nameko), and pasture-raised livestock including beef, pork, chicken, turkey, lamb, and rabbit — all without synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, growth hormones, or unnecessary antibiotics. The farm also grows its own animal feed including corn, oats, and hay, and produces honey and organic baked goods. Consumers can access products through a full-diet, free-choice farm cooperative (CSA) with up to 200 members, where members choose exactly what they want each week at the farm or via home delivery on Thursdays. The farm also sells at the Ligonier Country Market on Saturdays and supplies several local restaurants and retail outlets across the tri-state area. Internships and low-income work-share options are also available.
