Erdenheim Farm is one of the last great working farms on the edge of Philadelphia, a breathtaking 450-acre sanctuary of pastoral life in Lafayette Hill, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Its story begins in 1765, when German immigrant Johannes Georg Hocker purchased 200 acres west of the Wissahickon Creek and named the land "Erdenheim" meaning "earthly home" in German. Over the centuries, the farm passed through the hands of notable stewards, including renowned thoroughbred horse breeders and the prominent Widener family, before the McCausland family acquired and revitalized it in 2009.Today, Erdenheim Farm is home to approximately 570 animals, including prize-winning Cheviot sheep, Black Angus and Highland cattle, Morgan horses, free-range chickens, donkeys, and rare goats. The farm grows crops using traditional methods with minimal chemicals, and raises its livestock on open pastures with a deep commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Nearly all of its 450 acres are protected from development through conservation easements, making it a vital green refuge in a rapidly urbanizing region.
