Hillcrest Orchard & Dairy is a family-operated apple orchard and working dairy farm located at 2 Davis Road in Branchville, New Jersey. Established in 1998, the 67-acre farm combines traditional apple growing, dairy farming, and artisan cheesemaking in the scenic countryside of Sussex County. The orchard grows more than ten apple varieties, including Honeycrisp, Gala, McIntosh, Fuji, Cortland, and Golden Delicious. Beginning in early September, visitors can enjoy seasonal pick-your-own apples, with hayrides taking families into the orchard during the harvest season. Hillcrest also presses and bottles its own fresh apple cider and makes apple cider donuts, both available at its on-site farm store. In 2018, the farm expanded into cheesemaking with the creation of Jersey Girl Cheese. Using milk exclusively from its own grass-fed Jersey cows, the farm produces small-batch Italian-style cheeses, including fresh mozzarella, burrata, caciocavallo, scamorza, and other aged varieties. Some cheeses mature in a dedicated hillside aging cave. Visitors can shop for fresh apples, cider, donuts, and farmstead cheeses while enjoying the atmosphere of a working dairy farm. The farm also operates a separate Jersey Girl Cheese retail shop in Rockaway and participates in regional farmers markets. Hillcrest Orchard & Dairy offers a distinctive farm-to-table experience that connects local shoppers with fresh orchard products, traditional dairy farming, and handcrafted cheeses produced in northern New Jersey.
